Life skill manuals from Field Assembly LLC

Route · three manuals

You are hiring a trade

The skill is not doing the work. It is defining it, pricing it, checking who you hired, and knowing what the paperwork already obliges them to do.

Read in the order the work arrives, not the order the manuals sit on the shelf. Each step below names the one chapter to open first, so you are not starting at the top of a manual at two in the morning.

What this route leaves out

Doing the work yourself. These manuals make you a better client, not a tradesperson, and none of them is a substitute for a licensed one.

The route

  1. Before you call anyone

    General Contracting

Bids are only comparable if every bidder is pricing the same work. Writing the scope first is the single thing that most changes what you pay.

  2. When the bids come in

    General Contracting

Comparing three proposals line by line: what each one includes, what it quietly excludes, and which checks to run on the people behind them.

Open atHow to Compare Contractor Bids: Scope, Checks & Levelling

  3. When a shop recommends work

    Car Maintenance

Parts, labor and shop fees, separated out, so you can see what you are being asked to approve before you approve it.

Open atHow to Read a Car Repair Estimate: Parts, Labor, Fees

  4. Before you sign with a mover

    Plan Your House Move

USDOT and MC numbers, binding against non-binding estimates, and what valuation actually covers. The federal 110 percent rule is the one to know by heart.

Open atHiring a Mover: Licenses, Estimates and Valuation Explained

  5. When it goes wrong

    Conflict Management Coming soon

The conversation that comes before the complaint, and how to have it without losing the job.
