On April 6, ConsenSys Health announced to launch “STOP COVID-19 Ethereum Hackathon”. The hackathon will begin on April 13 and run through May 11. ConsenSys Health is supported by ConsenSys, which is a leading blockchain company to build and invest blockchain projects. (most of them are on the Ethereum ecosystem.)
The hackathon is co-sponsored by leading blockchain companies /platforms include Gitcoin, Hyperledger, ConsenSys, OpenMined, and others.
Bring together healthcare and life sciences domain experts with engineers
Mentioned on the release “The healthcare and life sciences expert volunteers serving as mentors will help software developers understand key topic areas in those phases. Some of these areas include clinical trials for treatments and vaccines, global screening data, vulnerable and at-risk populations, identity provenance and consent, privacy-preserving location tracking, and supply chain optimization for ventilators and other vital medical supplies.”
However, there are only mentors from ConsenSys Health with a health background. But no other sponsors with health background till this article post.
Engineers will come from three open-source software communities: Ethereum, Hyperledger, and OpenMined.
As we know, Ethereum is the most active public blockchain, it also provide tools for organizations to build consortium blockchain.
Hyperledger is a consortium blockchain project for enterprise business level which found by Linux Foundation. Now, it’s the most active project that used for consortium blockchain project.
OpenMined is an AI blockchain network for cryptocurrencies. AI model can be governed by multiple owners and trained securely on an unseen, distributed dataset.
The hackathon will host on Gitcoin, platform to crowdfund and freelance developers for open source software projects
It should be noted Gitcoin has a community with 36,000 developers. It based on Ethereum to match three different kinds of roles include project funders, developers, investors.
- Project funders can launch projects through Gitcoin to crow-fund and find developers to work with.
- Developers can help to build the projects to get incentives.
- Investors can participate in the crow-funding process.
The prize money for the STOP COVID-19 Hackathon totals $20,000,
Prize including $10,000 for first place, $7,000 for second place and $3,000 for third place.
Also, for teams win the hackathon get fast-track for funding sources through Gitcoin, ConsenSys grants, ConsenSys Health and others.
